Quiet Dining, Metal Building, Houston, Texas

Background
The Stone Curtis Group of Houston, Texas was asked to install a thermal insulation and sound dampening solution in an apartment building.

Challenge
The apartment complex for mentally handicapped individuals required expanded dining facilities for the residents. An existing metal building located behind the apartments was to be converted from unfinished space into a fully finished dining room. In selecting an insulation solution, the Stone Curtis Group wanted to provide a means to control the conductive heat flow from the exterior metal sheeting, an air barrier that would ensure that the hot exterior air did not enter the conditioned space of the dining hall, and an insulation that would minimize sound amplification off the steel construction components.

Solution/Results
Stone Curtis selected the use of Icynene® for this project. Icynene® provided the ideal air and conductive heat barrier material, and also reduced the airborne sound.
